Hanging
Fibrous Plastering, commonly known as the installation of manufactured plasterboard sheeting to the interior walls and ceilings of residential and commercial buildings.
The Plasterboard sheets are mechanically fixed with screws and glue to the walls onto timber or metal stud frames, Ceilings will be direct to trusses or metal battens with a slightly different screw and glue patten.
Plasterboard sheets can be fixed to brick or cement walls using a "stick on" method, where a masonry adhesive is mixed and dob's of the mix are placed onto the wall, sheets are then stuck on and levelled off using a straight edge level.
Alternatively a metal furring channel system can be used where clips are shot into the brick or cement wall then metal battens placed onto the clips and the plasterboard is then fixed directly to the metal battens.
Wet Areas
Wet areas, eg: Bathrooms ect should have specific boards used.
Some options being villaboard a cement sheeting designed for wet areas, on the more cost effective side an Aquacheck plasterboard also designed for resistance in wet areas.
Stopping up / Troweling
When your plasterboard walls and ceiling have been fixed correctly your plasterer will then "Stop up" all joins, screw holes, internal angles and external angles.
Using a three coat system, two base coats mixed on site and one top coat pre mixed.
All joins and internal angles will require a paper tape to be installed at the minimum to prevent any cracking and external angles will require a metal, plastic or paper external angle to be installed, all this is completed before or along with the first base coat.
Sanding
Once your top coat is dry your plasterboard is ready to be sanded, your plasterer will return and run over all troweled areas ensuring to sand out or touch up all blemishes so you have a perfect finish ready for painting.
How much does plastering cost?
